With these easy yet impressive sweet pies you can "bake love", and not just on Valentine's Day!
1 pkg. Puff Pastry
1 can cherry pie filling (21 oz.)
2 Tbsp. melted butter
3 Tbsp. turbinado sugar
Dark Chocolate Sauce:
4 oz. bitter sweet chocolate, finely chopped
1/3 cup heavy cream
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
3 – 3 1/2 in. heart shaped cookie cutter
STEPS
-
Preheat oven to 400°F.
-
Unroll refrigerated Puff Pastry on enclosed parchment paper to baking sheet. Use heart-shaped cutter to cut out 8 dough pieces. Discard remainder of dough or recombine on a separate sheet and cut an additional heart.
-
Top each of 4 hearts with 1 heaping tablespoon of cherry pie filling. Brush the outside edges with butter to help hold the seal. Close each with second heart-shaped dough piece. Using a fork, seal the edges by pressing down all around each heart. Brush with butter & sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
-
Place the hearts on the sheet with 2 inches between them. Cut two small slits in the top of each with a small knife. Bake at 400°F until golden brown, about 15 -20 min.
